Rose Cardamom Simple Syrup is a homemade syrup infused with warm cardamom spice and delicate rose water, creating a fragrant, floral sweetness that instantly elevates drinks and desserts.

What is Rose Cardamom Simple Syrup Used For?

Rose cardamom simple syrup is the foundation for multiple floral drinks and desserts. It adds delicate sweetness and warm spice to lemonade, cocktails (including this Rose Cardamom Cocktail and its Non-Alcoholic version), and hot drinks like tea or this Rose Cardamom Latte. It also enhances desserts, stirred into whipped cream for a lightly floral twist (try it in my Chantilly Cream) or drizzled over cakes for an instant boost of flavor.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Only 4 ingredients
  • Fragrant and lightly floral
  • Very versatile; use it to sweeten lemonade, add to cocktails, hot drinks and in desserts
  • Stores well and freezes without any change in texture

The first time I tried the rose and cardamom flavor combo was sipping a latte at my neighborhood bakery. I fell in love with the flavor pairing and knew I needed to have this on hand. I created this Rose Cardamom Simple Syrup to add to my tea, lattes, cocktails, and mocktails. It’s one of those staples I always keep in the fridge.

Ingredients

Rose water, cardamom pods, sugar, and water arranged for making rose cardamom simple syrup
  • Water and Granulated Sugar: They form the syrup base.
  • Cardamom: Use green whole cardamom pods, not ground cardamom (it won’t give you the same flavor).
  • Rose Water: Adds soft floral flavor, stir in after the simple syrup has cooled for best results.

Expert Tips

  • Only stir in the rose water after the syrup has cooled. Heat dulls its delicate floral aroma and weakens the flavor.
  • Taste as you go. Rose water strength varies by brand. Start small and adjust.
  • When storing, make sure to place the simple syrup in an airtight container or it will start to form sugar crystals

Make Ahead and Storage Info

Refrigerator: Store in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks and shake before using.
Freezer: Place simple syrup in an airtight container and freeze for up to 2 months.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cardamom pods
  • 2-3 tablespoons rose water

Instructions

  • Add cardamom pods to a small saucepan and crush them with a pestle, muddler, or the back of a spoon to release the seeds.
  • Add water and sugar to the saucepan. Place over medium-high heat and bring to a gentle boil. Cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring, until fragrant and slightly darkened.
  • Remove from the heat and strain the simple syrup through a fine-mesh sieve into a measuring cup with a pourable spout; discard the cardamom pods and seeds.
  • Refrigerate for about 15 minutes to cool slightly.
  • Once cool, stir in the rose water to taste. Transfer simple syrup to a glass jar and chill until ready to use.

Notes

From testing, I’ve learned the rose water is best added once the syrup cools. Heat softens the floral notes, but stirring it in at the end keeps the flavor bright, fresh, and beautifully aromatic.
